I don't know if Rik used a section of carpet roll tube, but a few years ago one of the US magazines featured a South Beach DIY that was cardboard box & carpet roll tube paper-machéd to simulate stucco.

I used a Quick-Tube concrete form which you can get at Lowe's, Home Depot and any of the home improvement stores. The only
thing you need to do is remove the inner lining which is waxed so that the concrete won't stick to it so....yup nothing else will stick either.
I also use oatmeal boxes for the spirals taircases when I need a smaller tower. The Quick-Tubes come in sizes from 6" up to 3 feet in diameter. The oatmeal boxes are 5'' in diameter.
I hope that helps.

Attic Spaces Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

Subject:Attic Spaces

Good Morning All:

I just came across the email about Marie's Haunted House.
Can someone email
me the URL again so I can take a peek, it sounds wonderful.
I take it from
some of the responses a discussion was ensuing about the
attic space and the
walls. I had a similar issue (trying to hide tape wire) and
decided to
"insulate" the walls by using cut trim work as the studs,
and pink carpeting
as the insulation. To give it depth I used cotton balls
under the insulation
to give it undulation. I then took cob web materials from
Halloween and
stretched it real thin and just laid it all over the
contents of the attic.

If anyone is interested in more detail as to how I did it
or wants to see
photos, feel free to email me at sweiner@mhwgroup.com and I
can email you
the URL to my family's website. It is my first dollhouse
but I think it came
out well.

Marking Dollhouse Parts - Post Its Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

StructuresMy small dollhouse parts go in zip-lock bags with a note inside such as "interior window frames", "stair parts", etc. Large parts get a post-it note with the part # on it.

Marking Dollhouse Pieces - Masking Tape Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

StructuresMasking tape works for me. I wrote on the tape & then tore it off & stuck it to the part until I was ready to use it. I took the ziplock bags you can write on for little bits like window frames and stairways and wrote on the bag and put all the relevant bits in until I was ready for them. My masking/ drafting tape stayed on just fine until I took it off.

StructuresDOLLHOUSE KITS: Try a dollhouse kit from Tom at Earth and Tree Miniatures in New Hampshire.
He designs his own and uses such great quality wood, you'll love it. Easy to put together and sturdy! Not flimsy or warpy like some some other kits on the market.
And his prices are very reasonable too.

Victorian Cottage Jnr Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

StructuresMy first dollhouse was the Victorian Cottage Jr., and it was sturdy and very easy to put together. My 10 and 7 year old nieces had their hands in the construction also. It is made by Real Good Toys and has clear directions.

My four year old niece loves to come to my house to place with it and it still looks like it did the day we finished it. Anyway, it's a great starter project.

StructuresMARKING DOLLHOUSE PIECES: I just write on the pieces with soft pencil and erase the mark later. If there are a lot of little pieces they go into a zip-lock bag. Identifying the pieces first is crucial.

Hardwood Floors for Light House Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

StructuresA little hint for the RGT lighthouse: if you are doing hardwood floors apply them ahead of time before putting the structure together. Just allow about an 1/8" off of the floor wood on each side so it fits in the groove. Have plenty of masking tape ready.
